Once again the SCCA has out witted itself and has had to recend clap56.gif its planned consolidation of car classes. All due to overwhelming objections on the part of the membership.Who said writting letters doesn't work.

For all of us that race 914's it appears that the current rules and classifications will remain intact.( or until someone else comes up with another not so bright idea screwy.gif ).

These knuckle heads somehow manage to come up with a new 5 year plan every 9 months.Lets hope sanity continues to prevail.

That's great news Tom! Thanks for the update.

They (the powers that be) better get their act together and start recruiting new racers, and keep existing racers. There were only 100 cars at the Road Atlanta national last weekend! In all my years of attending races at road atlanta I have never seen such a poor turn out for a national event. I'm sure some of that has to do with the price of gas, but that isn't going to ever go down, so some counter action better be taken to save amateur road racing (IMHO).

As a budget oriented racer I would like to see them borrow a page from the circle tracks I have raced in recent years and adopt a sane tire rule for the Production classes. A well thought out spec tire rule would greatly reduce the cost to be competitive. It would also help some if we had to race on the same tires we qualify with. Just a thought.

agree.gif Thanks!
Also, thanks for the push to get a weight break. The 50lbs reduction definitely helps.

Well, according to some unpublished formula regarding small bore production cars, every 7# is equivalent to uno horsepower.

Boy, I sure hope their right.Thats about seven extra ponies for us......and it didn't cost us anything but perhaps some lead weight.

Look out Jake and Len.The SCCA is trying to put you out of business.

Tom HP will never go out of business!LOL

I really don't get the SCCA. If they are trying to help even the feild, then it stands to reason that they feel some car or cars have an advantage. It's my opinion that those cars should be made to weigh more. Telling us we can remove 50 lbs of wt. is not as helpful as they might think. I just got my car balanced very nicely. Now I can remove 50lbs of lead? Great, except that now my car will not be as nicely balanced. If what I learned about balance and chassis tuning on circle tracks applies to road racing (and so far it has) it is likely my corner times will suffer if I remove 50lbs of lead. Rules makers shooting from the hip don't always hit the target. IMHO it shows ignorance to beilieve that a well developed race car can just shed 50lbs without spending money and time to maintain proper balance. What we gain under acceleration will be lost to cornering ability if we loose the balance.
