The clutch that gave up last month was a Kennedy (KEP) blue color marked 2700 pounds, Porsche Heavy Duty, 215mm Type M. I took it to Southland Clutch in National City CA this afternoon and the release/clamping force was 1509 pounds although the release was clean the the throw to release was right on according to the guys there. They have a really neat machine that is setup and you can simulate the racecar measurements and see just what is happening. The big question is, was it a 2700 pound clutch as marked and if so that means it lost about 1200 pounds of force over the years? Does this sound right to the experts with clutches? Also, can it be sent to Kennedy and rebuilt?

Absolutely!! It wouldn't surprise me if KEP rebuilds it for free if they find out it is defective

2700lb is STOUT! They stopped selling the "numbered" plates many years ago. They now have StageI/II/III
I run stage II behind 3.6's all the time

Brad's right: Kennedy folks a really good people.
I 'm close enough to drive to their shop and not only is their manufacturing impressive, the guys were most generous with their time to help with the clutch for my 914 V8 conversion.
You know what I'm talking about: some shops just want to sell you something and some are enthusiasts and want to be sure
you end up with a good result.
I'd suggest giving them a call and trust that they WANT you to be happy with their products.

Man that Kennedy clutch/pressure plate combination we put in 222 worked great, better in fact than the 'original' light weight Sacks that couldn't handle the torque of the 2.4.

Well an update. I called KEP and they said that model was what is now refered to as a stage 2 pressure plate and the clamping pressure should have been about 1850# so since mine is now measuring 1500# with a slightly higher torque engine it was going to let go. They were happy to hear that the disk and pressure plate had lasted as long as it had and said to send it back for evaluation and possible rebuild.

KEP continues with great customer service!!

I used to call from Texas LATE at night for CA. time and old man Kennedy would talk my ear off at 11pm west coast time!!! I would be calling to place an order by leaving a message.. he would intercept the answering machine (back then) and talk to me..

Good luck John! Sounds like you will be back on track very soon!
