I'm looking at radio systems for my car. From a safety aspect I believe they could be beneficial as my spotter (my wife) could warn me of an on track accident before I get there. What other benefits are there to a radio system? I plan on having a system that will support at a minimum the driver, spotter and crew chief.

GREEN GREEN GREEN!!! smilie_pokal.gif driving.gif << start of the race = 2-3 position's over people without radio's when you are buried at the back of a pack

Split times. One car in front and one in rear.

Coaching (driver) from person outside of car

Driver feedback about setup

On track incident feedback from driver

"I'm pitting" prepares "crew" for fueling or tire change..

I can go on and on.. smile.gif

Sounds good....especially when ARC starts rookie drivers to their series at the back of the pack in their first race or two regardless of qualifying times. March 29th and 30th will be Lucille's first races. I have a few months to find some radios.

You are always getting all the toys.

Should be able to find used radio's pretty easy. Just make sure they are all "crystal'd" the same (same frequency)

Racing Radio's

Get the HIGH DB gain antenna and buy the regular mounted hard wired unit for the car. The last thing you need to worry about is "charging" the radio's.. it is bad enough keeping up with the two.. It is damn near a full time job on a pro team with 22 radio's to keep everything working and in order.

This is the hardwire setup for the car. It comes with the red power cable. The radio ships with the bracket. You have to buy the button and the cable for the "push to talk"

It depends who is on the other end.
Brad Roberts
JP is correct clap56.gif

Radio's don't do you any good if the help isn't coached for a few events!

I'm available smile.gif

As Brad said, radios are veeeerrrry important especially if you race in a group with a wide speed range like at some of the vintage races I do. There might be an RSR or two, an old IMSA GT car or two and then the rest of us slower cars and they can come up on you like a rocket.
Brad Roberts
Having a good spotter is VERY important! It keeps everyone safe smile.gif Just like NASCAR (car high, car low)

The most important: blind corners where something has happened and the flagger's have yet to respond and your driver is coming up on it.

Second: debris on track that flagger's cannot see.

Third: car off course in a dangerous runoff area!

Congratulations! Now you're entering a whole new phase. Wait till you climb out of your car at the end of that first race. You're going to be asking yourself, why haven't I been doing this before? Great news.
Brad Roberts
Yes he will lol.gif and he will want to do it again.. lol.gif A whole new world is about to open up in front of him!

Hi Andy,

I can't wait for the fun to begin! I think I'm ready for the next step, so we'll see how I do. I have no illusions that I'll place high in class, but it's the experience I am after and there's always someone to have fun with at any pace....

Bill, where is the first race....

I am available to help out for really really cheap. Same fee I got for Lucille's build wink.gif lol.gif lol.gif

let me know.

are you guys signed up for Sears with GGR?

I will be back in the tower.

you missed a good instructors meeting yesterday. wink.gif

Hi Dan,

The first ARC race is March 29th and 30th at Thunderhill. Kenny Gorman and I will be mixed in the GT3 group from what I understand. First time racers with the group start from the back of the pack for the first race, so he and I should have some fun from the tail end...

I have not signed us up for Sears. At this point I'm leaning towards not running due to weather. Since 2003, we've never had the chance to run for time due to rain. 2004 was the closest when we got 3/4 of the way through the time trial and then it rained, washing everyone's times out. With Doris and I both running, if you count entry fees, tow gas and hotel it's around $1K and I most likely won't get a chance to drive the car due to weather. Last year I unloaded the car for Friday night's tech and never took the car out of the trailer the rest of the weekend except to show people what a Spec Boxster looked like. That $1K pays for more days later in the year.

I couldn't make the GGR instructors meeting...I have season tix to the SF Symphony....How did it go? Do we have more instructors?

Doris will be learning how to be an effective spotter. I'll most likely see if Randal wants to come out as well. We've got to get the team up to speed as well as the driver.

I've been pricing out radio sets. Geez, the hard wired setup has got a heckuva premium on it. I may have to go with the battery powered ones due to budget. This off-season is getting expensive...again... headbang.gif

Bill P.

HUm.. look on Ebay. They rarely go bad. What kind of price for the hard-wired one?
