Frank prepare for the flood gates to open with folks telling you not to go with a single carb. Most run either the original FI or run dual weber 40's. I have a set of dual 40's that I ran for a long time but bought a weber 32 36 progressive and rejetted it and have loved it for the electric choke and simplicity. Did I lose some hp's by going with it...yes I did but I just run my car on the street as a pleasure car and do not ax or race mine so I have no issues with losing a few hp's.

More than likely you received it with a 55 or 60 main idle jet and a 50 secondary. I played around with mine for a while and found the best for mine was a 65 main idle jet and a 50 on the secondary. I have my main turned out about one and a quarter turns and it runs great. After you adjust your carb take it out fror a drive and check your plugs and they should be a nice light tan color if you are tuned correctly. One more thing if you are running a mechanical distributor (no vacuum port) make sure you cap the vacuum port on you carb. You can buy the little rubber caps that slip over the port at any auto parts store.

Does one need to know the size of one's engine or that of another respondent who has found the optimal carb jet set up for his?

My car had a single weber/Holley when i bought it and had a nasty air leak. i replaced the boots and rebuilt the carb but found the throttle shaft and carb body were junk. headbang.gif

Hi, I'm a single carb sinner. Weber 32/36 DFEV, basically out of the box with a SVDA dizzy. However, I live in a place where it gets cold and wet, so I have a custom air cleaner setup with a heat riser. It runs great, but I'm not yet sure of the fuel mileage. (Anyone tell me what I SHOULD get with a 73 1.8?) I'm not sure I understand the 50 jets and all that jazz, but I'm pretty willing to learn if someone feels patient.
