We desperately need a pit speed limiter in the Grand Am Boxster. This means a steering wheel mounted button that interrupts the ignition (coil on plug) through the computer.

Any suggestions. Willing to pay. Just need someone who knows their shit to dig in.

I'm surrounded by them but likely not willing to come down your way.

Oliver Kho, He's been doin it for years. Everything from CART to Show cars to the occasional Toyota Eagle. The one off special project stuff was always he specialty, that and the best wiring harnesses you've ever seen.

He's usually pretty busy, but send him a message he might be able to recommend someone if he can't do it.

I've used the WOT BOX for launch control and rev limiting shifts on the cheep. Could probably do what you're asking by connecting the clutch switch to a lock button on the steering wheel instead.

Bit of a kludge, but they're dirt simple to install and configure.

You are the man.. already contacted them.. and they responded first!! out of all the people I have contacted.

Done deal. Ordering today.

Thank you soo much. I knew that a launch control setup would work for us..

They're awesome on 914s with tired syncros too ;) Next best thing to a modern tranny.

You using a clutch switch for the upshift? or a button

I rigged my own clutch switch and had to do some work to bodger a sensor on the gas pedal to pretend to be a TPS. There's probably some other things I'm forgetting off the top of my head. Probably more work than it was worth, but I'm gonna need it when I finally get around to mounting the vw turbo 16v in the darned thing.

Should be MUCH easier in a modern Porsche. I've dropped a few in MKIV VWs and 2 Audis with no issues. Getting things sorted in this old rust bucket was a challenge, but definitely worth it.

If you trigger the clutch switch input off a push on/push off switch and program in properly, you should be good to go for speed limiting. I haven't tried it yet, but I've got a switch on hand, might be fun to set the darned thing to 35mph and drive around the block with the pedal on the floor ;)

Brad Roberts
That is exactly what I intend to do. I'll try to make the no lift upshift work also. They call it a 2-step. I should be able to control one step with a button and one step with the clutch. Clutch will be ignition cut, steering wheel button will be preset RPM cut. Then figure out the pit speed needed and find out what gear we need to be in for the limiter to hold the car at a certain speed.

Perfect.

I can easily see this turning into traction control smile.gif

Hmm interesting. Hall effect sensor on a front wheel and both rear wheels, when the difference in rotation is > x studder? Sounds terrifying, but I can get started on the skits if you're serious.

I haven't looked up the sensors yet, but I'm guessing they're pulse generators of some sort. Put a pulse to voltage coverer circuit on each wheel, when the difference between the front and back is greater than x% throw a switch. Could be done without a controller, should be fairly simple.

Now that you're playing with a 2 step rev limiter and talking about rev limited traction control, I'm starting to think you hate accelerators, maybe a trigger would be better ;)
Brad Roberts
The car is fly-by-wire!! lol.gif

I've already been involved with cars that were "heavily scrutinized" by Grand-Am for having traction control through Motec. We were asked to remove it.
