OK Pete how did it do at Redwood AX? Is the car really legal in SSM? I love those SCCA "street" classes! Did you beat that XP Subi?

Didn't do too hot- had some issues, oil leak, etc, but it was a fresh tuning day and we had fun. Steve and I co-drove, and I only got three runs in before a starter issue forced us to pack it in and go home.

I was running the RE050A street tires for the first time (we need to use those for One Lap of America), and there was ridiculously little grip- .95 Gs in the corners vs 1.25 for the V710s. Given that, the lack of setup and the fact that it was a handling course I was pretty pleased, though when we left we were a couple seconds back of TTOD. V710s should fix that eventually, but for now I want to get these street tires working better or we'll be screwed at OLOA.

Chris Hamilton's new 912 did good- I think he had us by over a second when we left on RA1s.

The car is just ridiculously, insanely fast in a straight line, especially at freeway speeds. Just nuts...

uhhh looks like it needs a bit more sorting. Sure sounds wicked though. Reminds me a lot of trying to AX my 993. Wicked fast but in need of much more grip to cope with the power (and I have 200hp less pinch.gif ). I have to say though that with a cars in this realm, I am sure glad my 993 has ABS. Props for Pete for building a true unadulterated monster.

Looks like those tall tires are a bear to get warm. You look real tentative in turns. The acceleration is wicked however!

...Edit. LOL! Youre on streets! Thats awesome!

Yea the brake bias was too far back in those vids- rear lockup, spin, etc- didn't have time to get it dialed in over three runs. Getting there now though.
Interestingly the V710s wouldn't stick 1st gear in a straight line, while the RE050As do. We're seeing .9Gs in a straight line when they do... It's accelerating harder than it's braking at the moment!

In that Flickr pic, the front end is lifting - but that's coming out of the bumpy go-kart section.

The acceleration is awesome fun! So is the sound. It's a pretty intense ride and you can't really relax from the moment you turn it on.

- 'get ready to rumble' loud
- instant red-line revs and drops
- currently has a bi-polar personality in turns (will be tuning this out).
- Jet like takeoff in straight lines - just pins you to the seat without letup, regardless of speed. Much different than turbo torque.

I was at the AX on Saturday and saw this car. Awesome is an understatement. It might need sorting, but the car could not have been done up better. Just perfect in every respect IMO.

If I had the notion to build a similar car, and unlimited funds, I'd build exact the same thing. It seems no expense was spared building this car, and it shows.

Thanks very much Mike. Very glad you appreciated it.
Rides soon, hopefully...

It's fun to see the opposite interpretation of the 912 out there!

We're going to have what, 5 or more 912s at GGR this year?

btw here is my windshield-wiper-cam video of one of the morning runs at Santa Rosa:

edit:

finally got the fastest run ( 45.7 ) encoded properly. This one has less wiper-cam view:

Did the Black Subi STi beat your time by much?
914Magazine
Hey Chris, that looks/sounds like a fun car.

And, Pete.... just, WOW.

He got us by 7/10ths sad.gif

But I still feel pretty good. First time we've run the car so we have a few adjustments to make and Hoosier A6s or goodyear slicks will probably be worth some time over the 205 toyos I've got.

edit: and I have to point out that we're not going to go crazy with this car, it'll remain stock-ish like it is now. We've already got a couple chopped up trailer queens. This car with the toyos is in AX10. I'll see where it ends up with some A6s later.
mike the snake
Awesome Chris! When I left you were in the mid 47's, you stepped it up.

Justin in the black Subie has a good program. Gutted WRX on slicks. I've watched his car run at the Santa Rosa AX's over the last year or so. Looks like crap, but he does well with it.

Under (5/1) 5lb per hp ratio - better than the Carrera GT smile.gif

Hopefully we'll get some real times soon. 1/4mile etc. any predictions?

I was thinking around 11 if it doesn't break. I don't think tranny would be happy with real drag race start.

We'll find out. There is a 1/4 mile drag race event at One Lap, and a bracket drag.
I think it will hold up. The 6 speed is pretty strong, and because we have less weight over the back and less tire than say a GT3 cup we can't put quite as much torque to the trans. Of course those are known to break axles, so let's hope that's not an issue...
Chris Hamilton
Results are up from Santa Rosa!

I hope we have good weather like this again on the 20th.

Wow! Andrew makes any car look awesome! It would be great to see him in a real AX car at SCCA nationals someday.
