Just saying..
It friggin rocks.. been delivering parts/pieces organizing and keeping two people busy.
Basically there is NOTHING we cannot do out of this shop.
The only thing missing (because I don't have the money for it) is a CNC machine.
One day I'll invite some 914 people up for a little BBQ or something, then a run through the mountains

Anyone know how to get vinyl off the side of an 18wheeler?? after it has been baked in the sun for several years?
I want get going on getting the trailer wrapped with BRAG

We used a rubber wheel (similar texture to a pencil eraser) on a drill to take lettering off the side of an 18 wheeler with moderate success. Wouldn't recommend it for large jobs. Very tedious.
If you were closer than 20 hours away you could help build my car!

Going well?

It will soon. Sat down last night and created worksheets on EVERYTHING in the shop so the guy's know priority on projects and exactly what needs to be done on each project!!

if ya need to remove a lot of vinyl, get a roofers torch
it allows you to heat up large sections of vinyl at once (unlike a regular heatgun)
with heat, both the vinyl and the glue soften up, making it easier to remove
another option is to put it in a paintbooth and let it bake for a while...

Congrats. I think this is a very good move for you. Now... get a good manager, a CPA and don't over-book yourself in the first 2-5 years. I can see this going very well. Tendency is to book as much as comes in. Sometimes you need to not accept some business as to not get over your head. It's the downfall of some very good business folks. Focus on customer satisfaction and not retirement and the business will come beating down your door.

Roofers torch.. CHECK!!
The problem is: the vinyl on one side has cracked into little pieces. It won't be coming off in the large sheets like they are showing!!

Brad,
You still crewing Chris Prey Racing? Are ya'll going to make the trip out to VIR in April for the Continental race? We might end up going to Summit Point that weekend for a regional but we will be around VIR until Friday afternoon.

Brad,
Any idea when you will be headed our way? I can help arrange support if you need things like machine shop, lift, garage, etc. I live about 45 minutes from the track but have alot of friends in the South Boston area (plus another garage) about 20 minutes from the track. Also the track security director, Bob Compton, is a good friend of mine.

Milt,
I do need some help. We need a shop/lift we can use for a few hours. Because of the travel schedule, we have to leave the trailer and race car along the east coast. Can we rent space (outside is fine) to keep the trailer up there?

Brad,
As far as parking the trailer, I'm sure I can get you a place within about 5 miles of the track for free. How long will the trailer need to be there? You can use my lift and shop at my house but it's about 45 minutes from the track. If that's too far, I can probably find something closer but my place is free and readily available.

Milt,
I'll be in touch!!

45min is NOTHING compared to Houston to VIR!!
We will need a home for the trailer after Homestead in a few weeks.

I'll start working on a place to park the trailer and we can use my place for the shop/lift. We can always readjust f necessary.
