the new rating system is live. We all have to reclassify our cars.

Interesting. I moved from AX13 back to AX14.

There is another 914 in the same class, with these differences;

He has tires with a treadwear less than 50, mine are 100
I have fiberglass bumpers
I have non-stock swaybar
I have an upgraded master cylinder
I get a 20 point discount for having stock wheel width
I have carbs.

Do all of my pluses offset the tire difference?

Gonna be fun

There's a 914-6 in AX2 with a 4cc displacement engine. Problem with the rating or with the system. HaHa

Come on everybody - where do you rate?

Jim

With all the the "mods" and 3 more inches of wheel car only classes out at AX 3 and TT5. Same as my old 914. Suspect the 7" wheels with cantis would drop car back to AX4, I must have missed something?
914Magazine
Looks like AX3 for me too. Hmmmmmm
914Magazine
Seems I messed up and I am actually in AX4

Anyone know Adam Green (997 GT3RS)
Borderline
Look like if I ever get my 2366 together I'll be in AX4, otherwise I'll be at home headbang.gif headbang.gif headbang.gif headbang.gif

It's interesting, over the winter I checked the points for the 2366 and did some experimentation. If my car started life as a '75 2.0 I would be in AX5. I would have ended up with exactly the same car, but the fact that I started with a heavier '75 I would be in a lower class hmmm.
ChrisNPDrider
AX13 with street tires on, AX 11 with race wheels and DOTR race tires.
AX11 is stacked already...AX 12 is vacant.
Street tires with a few more mods to jump to AX12 is looking like the winning strategy for car #914 beerchug.gif

Wierd. I've jumped up 2 classes with no changes. AX12 to AX10

The strange part is that I've been assessed 70 points for my wheel sizes. But I have a stock wheel size. In fact, I have the smaller of the standard wheel size for an '04 Boxster S (I'm running 7" and 8.5"). Not sure why I'm assessed wheel points for stock wheels. That should be included in the base points.

Dan, Larry, any idea?

Edit: just posted my question over at the GGR forums....

Hmm you kicked everyones butt in PAX in a Boxster S. Sounds like payback to me. happy11.gif
ChrisNPDrider
Yup, the wheel width will get ya!
Go with 6" wide wheels and there are no extra points....but now you need to shop around for this non-stock mod to classify as stock with no mods. happy11.gif
Krieger914
I'm no expert, but there goes GGR reinventing the wheel....again. Aren't there are point systems out there already that work? I am sure there will be more "adjustments" in the next year. This is comical.
Krieger914
So if the pax or scca system was used for just porsches at a pca event wouldn't it be fair? Couldn't something as simple as having scales at the event to weigh car. Tire width/compound. Big wings or not. Require car/engine dyno. Group cars based on power to weight. Maybe figure out 8-10 classes based on these parameters. Too simple or it would've been done?
Krote6
Its club so why not have a system of our own .. Look around and youll see All rule sets have their issues ..

My car went from AX11 to AX10 .. Umm I think I am in the same class as Demmick and we do get close to each other
Krote6
If you look at the SCCA classes there are only a few classes they put Porsches in ... My car is in the same class as a hopped up 996 GT2 in SCCA... Simple rules make make for limited competition between cars .. There are soo many diferent types of Porsches and so many mods you can do to them .. no rules can make it totally equarable for each driver.. but we try to get close .. look at the results last year and there were many classes with multiple drivers with a chance to win .. Most of the changes this year was for the big track ..

there was an algorithm used this year and all cars started with 6" wheels and then points were either added or subtracted depending on the wheel sizes to the base points. Base points for almost all cars were reduced.
Some cars changed classes from this and others did not. More emphasis was put on the car's performance potential than what had been done in the past.

That's interesting. I had skimmed the GGR forums and saw no mention of this. They should probably let people know, as I would assume that most people will be surprised by the significant wheel points with stock wheels.
Demick
Yes, base points were reduced by 65. I added 70 for wheels. So my net gain was 5 points, but since the class breakdowns were also changed, that measly 5 pts means a jump of 2 classes (ugh!). I guess the bright side would be that I now have 45 points of 'free' mods I can make.
Demick
Hey, I can do a complete M030 suspension for only 20 point!
grantsfo
Time to put 7" wheels with Canti's back on the car! If classing system where to be fair it would assess 75 additional points for cantilever slicks to put all racy 914's and a certain Boxster in proper class. I have to run test to se where I fall with Canti's now.

I'm with Larry on this one. GGR system is actually damn good when compared to crazy PCA or SCCA classing and PAX schemes.

GGR System does a damn good job. It favors new cars but hey it cant be perfect.
grantsfo
LOL! 7" wheels with cantis drop me 2 classes to AX5! And TT7! I'm running the ugly skinny wheels with GGR if I can make it to events.

To give you a sense how much things have changed my 2450 lb Boxster with no LSD was at AX5 last year. The newly modified Boxster at 2150lbs with nice LSD is in same AX5 class as my old configuration from last season. And I have dropped back to TT7 in TT. I have a sense I may be sitting on a record setting TT7 car.

Hmm where does Ken J end up with this new scheme? We may be in same class!

same as it has been for several years Demick smile.gif

Doesn't seem to be. Last year I was at 500pts, which put me at the very top of AX12. Now 500pts puts you at the top of AX11, and 505 puts me at AX10.
clemsonc
is BSR or SPBOX an official class in GGR AX?
So I don't have to worry about the tire and wheels.

or I will just run in FUN class.

Also who is this Ron Randolph character? ...Randal? happy11.gif or is there a new chop top 2500cc 914 in the house?

I also think I see a 914 not catching all mod points it should be. Just missing at least one item. I know its easy to do thats why I like people to look at mine and give me a hard time.

With 3G connectivity I wonder why we dont have a mandatory beginning of season classing tech session where someone with laptop goes through and techs cars to assure all items are checked? That would be a fun job that I'd volunteer for!
914Magazine
Is it me? BTW: if someone sees something I am missing or something I put down that I shouldn't have, tell me.

Sooo... I figure I'll end up in AX1 either way, but to do this right should I pretend I have a 997 GT3 for base points? And then do mods from there? Or should I pretend I'm a '69 911 with a bigger motor, induction, EFI, etc, etc...

We got a REALLY good deal on an RC plane engine.

Ok the 11 inch wheels is true though :D
orchid914
I just classified the 914.......2.06 at Thunderhill....It comes out in GT3....doesn't leave much room for cars that are faster......like most of the newer and 6 cyl larger motor TT cars. Will they all be in GT 1 or 2??

I run in PCA GT-6 for the club races due to a 4 cyl motor and a 1900 lb 914....

Did I do somethhing wrong??
