http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oi5hWNAPsk&NR=1Those were the good old days of sports car racing. Very fun event and near the beginning of Paul Newmans long race career.
Paul Newman is/was my race driver hero and a true inspiration to anyone joining motorsports later in life. Started racing in his late 40's and didnt stop until he got sick and passed away at age 83.
I love this Letterman interview with him at age 82

Paul Newman-truely a class act.
A story a heard about him, can't remember where, but whenever he and his wife were at a hotel and she couldn't find him she knew to look in the stairwell where he would be running up and down the flights for excersise.

As a salesman I travel all around and meet interesting people. I was in Elmira, NY near my house (also Near Watkins Glen) and meant this nurse who said her mother was a room cleaner at a hotel in Watkins Glen when Paul Newman was racing there. Her friend and her were helping her mom out and got to clean some of the racers rooms and happened upon Paul Newman s briefs, well she stole them and framed them. She said they are still hanging on her wall at home. I am to young to really have followed Paul Newman's racing career but he sure seemed like a great man. I was sad to see him pass away.
