Bummer, I love watching Clem drive that car. There is always some kind of fist pumping action involved.
clemsonc
Dan, thanks for the additional info. I am getting a hardtop donor car soon (within a couple of weeks)
Mike, I like to drive my car too....
Brad, I think you might mistaken Litko's car, I was helping on the tear down.

I know that it is a soft market. I am just hoping to find a good home for the car.
campbellcj
Looks like a fun car and a very solid deal for somebody! Curious to hear/see more about your new project(s)...

Cheers,
clemsonc
I am going to get a very used boxster.... found one with hardtop already. it needs some tranny work.
In a couple of weeks, all the things are fixed. I will ask the NorCal SpecBoxster gang to help to tear it down.
and install suspension pieces. get a cage, and reassemble. there I will have a SpecBoxster.

Sounds easy.... but everything is a baby step.

My goal is to enter for club race (1 event) this year.

Sounds good Clemson!!! Get to the PCA website and find out about the race license requirements. It is not too bad to do the paperwork etc. The best GGR event would be the first one on March 26,27,28 because it is 3 days.... and you get practice toward the license on Friday. It was a lot of fun last year.

How much are you asking for the 914?

John

John, thanks for the info. March might be a little bit too soon. But I will try to make it.
I am listing my 914 for $6500 (OBO)... All the money will be used to build the SpecBoxster.

PM me or email clemsonc @ yahoo if interested. smlove2.gif

clemsonc
I removed a few items and lowered price to $5000.

Two Boxsters and one 914 cannot all fit in a 2 car garage.
Please help me to find a new home this 914, thanks.

Where's my commission? happy11.gif

His name is AJ. I don't know if he likes me to put out his last name.
He owns "West Coast Powder Coating" in South SF.
Powder coat a set of wheels (high end stuff) might cost more than my car.

It is his birthday today, he signed up on 914club today, as ajco.

Fantastic!!! Hopefully he will chime in here.

I'm trying to kick the habit. The withdrawl symtoms are starting to get to me. Damn I better go play some golf tomorrow.

Boy! was I wrong about soft market.

There were 12 people wanting to look at the car in day1 after posting to craigslist.

Lesson learned (but too late):
- post the car on craigslist if seller is serious and ready
- 99% of active members on 914club has one or more 914, they don't need another one
- don't lower the price too much, too quick
- be prepared before posting on craigslist, I didn't even get the car washed (close moment together)

It was a sad and happy moment when I sold my owned-11-year-914 last couple days. During these years of ownership, there were ups and downs. I used the car for daily commute for 7 years (including 3 years commuting to SF.) After 2005, the car needed some repair work, so I got a new daily driver. Since the repair the car is very strong. Super happy to use the car on the tracks in 2008 (Buttonwillow, Thunderhill, Laguna Seca). Very happy to use the car at GGR AX in 2009, it helped me to grab the AX14 class win.

Now, I am really glad to find a good home for the car. Just minutes ago, AJ the buyer called me up, saying thanks to me and telling me how tight the car runs. I am happy for AJ. I am happy for myself. I will focus on the Boxsters for now. I think SpecBoxster will be very fun. It is just a newer 914.

Thanks guys! I will still hang around here.

Congrats on the sale Clemson. I guess kind of a happy+sad day. Craigslist seems to be the ticket for getting a lot of eyeballs on ads these days.

My 914 sales experience was interesting as well. Initially, most people who inquired about the car just wanted to low-ball, and wouldn't agree to even take a look at the car until a lower inital price was agreed upon.
But as soon as the listing changed from 'for sale' to 'sale pending', many people all of a sudden wanted the car and were disappointed that it was 'sold'. I even had a guy begging me to back out of the original deal and offered me $1000 over my asking price.

Main lesson I learned was: Ignore anyone who wants to talk about price before anything else.

Is that really unique to 914's? Think thats pretty much how sale of any used item goes. Its why I hate selling things. I usually give away my 914 parts and traded my 914 for the Boxster. I pretty much have view that any Porsche expense is a write off. I gave my like new unused Rich Johnson motor mount to somone who really appreciated it couple months ago. That was far more satisfying to me than selling it to low ball buyer I dont know for couple hundred bucks. Tried to give away many other parts but even then I didnt get takers!

Funniest one is when I was selling one set of my BBS wheels whcih were very nice and was posting about giving away another set of "well" used BBS wheels and potential buyer of the good set thought I was giving away wheels to somone else and backed out of the deal. Now I'm giving both sets away!

I'd rather give parts to freinds than make a couple hundred bucks on people I dont know. And the headache of selling stuff is crazy. I'm selling some used tires and its hilarious the questions I get. Will you take a used cell phone for trade? Can you make sure the tires are sticky? Whats the date code? Can you look right now? How do you think they will work on an RX7? Will they fit on an 8.5 inch rim? Will you go lower than $50 a tire for like new 275 Hoosier A6's Can you bring them to work with you and I'll buy them tomarrow at noon if they look good. LOL!

are the A6s 15 inch? if so I'll take em... he he he
