OK, I figured I'd start this from my first drive in the car with the stock 2.0 and document the steps.
Today I fixed the vacuum leaks, adjusted the valves and set the timing. Got it running quite well now.

Not too bad. Snappy and pulls hard. Not a hint of smoke at idle, decel or accel.

Drove it around and it's kinda loose all over. Feels kinda wierd after driving the red car. The red one is nice and solid (plenty of work done on her) Now to pull the motor and start on new wheel bearings, brakes, bushings, ball joints, shox springs and sway. I'll update as I go. Oh yea, the car didn't come with a throttle pedal. I used one from my stash and it's kinda rusty so it sticks sometimes. (that was fun)

Yea, it runs strong. The compression should come up a bit too. It's been sitting several years. I'll bet close to 130 all the way around after it has some run time.

Pretty smooth. It just needs new bushings and she should be real tight. I'm also not used to the stock shifter. Much more travel. Got a little grind going into second but we shall see when I pull it out and open it up.

Today I drove the car to the gas station and noticed a thumping sound from the right rear. Have yet to figure it out but when I got home I lifted that side to spin the wheel and see if I can get it to happen while in the driveway. No such luck.
So, I started on the frozen front calipers. Pulled the pistons and cleaned them and the right side is now working fine. Started on the left and need to finish that tomorrow night. This car may make it out to GGR #2 with the 2 liter, just for kicks.

Started tearing things out looking for the dreaded rust monster and getting ready to prep the interior. Looks like it's held together quite well. So far nothing but slight surface rust inside. I started to chip away at the tar to see if it has the standard moisture issues but it's looking good. Maybe it was stored inside most of the time.

Just about all the stuff that looks like rust in the photos is spray glue that is yellowish. You have to get pretty close to find the surface rust in just a couple of places. Most of the interior is still covered with the original paint and no corrosion.

Yea, looks like this one got lucky. Not one hole. Not even anything you would consider serious surface rust. Just a tiny bit of yellowing here and there. Mostly tar, filler and some sort of glue. Although I do see some surface rust under what looks to be a rebuilt pedal cluster.

After adhesive removal. needs some cleaning up at the back of the e-brake mechanizm. Found some rust there but not too bad. Should clean up with a wire brush and some POR should kill it.

Although the hood springs need a mod. Too much for the lightweight hood. Maybe use hydrolic or just a stick...

Shitcan everything, grind off the attach points, hinge mounts, yada, use Dzus or hood pins to hold it on.....this is a racecar, eh?

Springs weigh too much. Use a hood prop. Race fasterners are OK for race cars but a pain in the butt if you plan to use the car for street at all. Telescopic hood prop is easy enough to keep in the trunk.

Or use what the cheap cars use, a built in prop that has a catch on either the hood or hinge (in your case probably a hinge)

Quite a bit above my budget but I did it anyway. It is a Getty Design hood. I purchased it used. Fantastic fit and quality.

you avoided the question...

how much? I have some of the Getty bumpers and valance in 'glass. Fit on the bumpers was very nice, but the valance needed some fitment. I am interested in the CF hood and boot. I like the CF look. If the layout is clean, clearcoat and no paint would be my preference on the "zonk". Are you planning to paint or leave "au-natural"?

Nice observation... ha ha ha
OK, the hood comes in at $899 from Getty. I got it a few hundred bucks cheaper than that, and it will get painted. It has some use so the sun has had it's way with it in a couple of spots. Not easy to keep them from "milking" so if you plan to keep it "au-natural" then look into some VERY GOOD uv protect. Also, the UV stuff breaks down too so a new application every "so many" hours of sunlight is recomended.

Today, I replaced the front calipers with a rebuilt set. They were toast. I tried cleaning up the old set but those things need a complete rebuild and a hone. No pics cuz ya-all know what calipers look like. Made a huge difference in drivability without the front brakes dragging.... ha ha ha
The front shox are wasted and the allignment is WAY off. Motor is sold so I'll pull it in a week or so and start on the suspension.

I don't know yet. I'm still thinking about what I want to do with it. I was thinking of mounting it horiz inside the front trunk and putting spacers on the deck lid so the rear sits up about half an inch to let the hot air out. But, I kinda like the idea of mounting it outside of the car. In other words..... not a clue...
