Turned out to be a pretty nice day. It warmed up for a little while and then started cooling off after lunch.
Sounded like Bill D had TTOD with a 48.4xx or there abouts. I got down to a 50.2xx, so I feel pretty good being within 2 seconds of Bill especially on a course with some pretty fast sections. I didn't hear any complaints about the course, and actually heard a couple guys say they liked it! The slalom right at the end was very slow, and could really ruin your lap time if you didn't enter it well.
A good day and a good turn out for LPR's last AX of the season.

Stella treated me well for the little orphan she is. Not too bad for my first season. One more AX to go..... GGR... Then it's "Season Closed" for us. Gonna be a long winter. Came away with a 55.0xx today.

The course was fantastic! I didn't hear one complaint. I did hear folks say they loved it, though. Man, that diag section was FAST!!! Dan, I took your advise. Pedal to the metal and don't chicken out. Worked like a charm. Bill, thanks for the coaching. I wouldn't have been able to get my top time without it. Slowing down made me look ahead and enabled me to remember what feature was coming up next. After learning the course instead of just driving it, I was able to take it up a notch and carve a full second off my best time of the morning runs. Just when I thought I was "getting it" it was time to pack up and go home. WOW!!!! What a blast!!!

Now you know just how tough the "first 3 runs count" rule that SCCA uses. One needs to compress your learning runs into one then get it on for the last 2. Its all part of the game.

Only now do I see why getting the car set up, and then leaving it alone and learning to drive "it" is so important. It only took me the whole damn season to get used to it.
914Magazine
Oct 27 2008, 01:11 PM
I see that now. It took me half the season to set it up the way I wanted. I like the car the way it is now. It will see very little change this winter. But I will be on sticky tires next season. (and a tad bit lighter)...

BTW: Bill C's car is dialed!!! It turns like it's on a rail and puts down the power it has very well. Heck, that lil 4 banger was only a couple of seconds away from a TTOD blisteringly fast 6. Oh yea, Bill drives that car very well too. Let's not forget that.

Next you'll learn just how tough it is to make up that 2 sec.....which at AX speeds is less than 100 feet.

Great way to spend the Sunday.
11 runs.
Fun course.
Friendly people...
Awsome fog pics MikeK !
And fast driving too. You are pulling further and further away from me. Getting up towards a 3 sec gap. Nice job.
Congrats to Bill.D for TTOD. Very aggressive driving. The front inside wheel was so far off the ground at times it looked like the car was waving to the crowd!
Bill.C was also flying. Very smooth and very fast.

Cool ! Jim.N and I talked at the end of the day yesterday.
He was looking really good during the morning runs (< 60 sec i believe).
But then seemed to lose some oomph during the afternoon.
This could have been due to fatigue from 2 straight days of AX'ing.
Or maybe the simple solution is eat a lighter lunch!
Go Jim!

Jim and I definitely have the same desire to better our skills.
Heck, I need to find a way to close the widening gap between Mike.K and me!
See you on the 22nd.

Yikes. That does sound tough. So how does one learn to learn AX courses faster?
Seems initial walk throughs become much more important.
Again, great LPR AX event.

Congratulations to Bill D. and Bill C. for a great set of runs!

Logan's course design definitely had some fun factor in it....
Pete vb and I co-drove Lucille and we were having fun. The weather was very cool so the grip wasn't there, but it was the same for everyone and overall it was a great time!

The best word I can use is "experience".....and then of course, you have to work at it.
Working at it gets messy sometimes....often for me.
I can't really tell you how. Half the time when I think I have a course down, I don't on that first pass....oops.
One thing I have learned is that course walks (2 at least) are not a social event. Brit & I try to get away from other folks and do it at our own pace....too fast & we'll stop to let others clear the area, too slow and we'll let others play thru. Any talk is about the course/line/a stinker cone.....concentration on the biddness at hand.
After a while, you find that a flowing course will follow naturally......and that makes it easier. Hinkey courses can cause problems. Large courses are nearly impossible for me to memorize....I just get general directions then look way ahead while driving. In a nutshell, everyone learns at their own pace.
