QUOTE (914LUST @ Jan 19 2011, 06:53 AM)

I have a California 76 2.0L that has a distributor that I believe (haven't pulled it out, but should be)
039905205B (i.e. Bosch 0231172021). However, that distributor has some axial wear, and I'm
thinking about putting in a distributor I have from a 74 2.0L 039905205A (i.e. Bosch 0231174011)
Part of the reason is that I suspect I'm getting excess mechanical noise from the distributor due to
the axial play. BUT I'm wondering a few things...
1) how will it affect performance? I'm assuming there's a different advance curve?
2) is there any harm?
3) how will it affect passing smog? (that's the only sucky part of owning a '76 in California... still need to pass smog...)
Let me add that I have a rebuilt engine with euro pistons, close to stock cam, and it runs nice and cool! And presently passes smog...
Any Help Greatly Appreciated! Richard
