So, I gots Bursch headers and a 2 in 2 out 911 sport muffler. How will this fare in the sound dept? Any chance I might need to look at the setup a little closer so I don't waste $300 on a track day just to get dinged for db? Standard KN filters with flat tops and a GT style lid.

I think given direction of things probably is a good idea. Nice to have a system that meets strictest sound restrictions given your proximity to Laguna Seca. I only expect to see increasing enforcement. Talk of stricter enforcement at SCCA events at Great America.

I'm searching for a more quiet solution for my car, but I so love the sound it makes now. Had a freind stop by Marina Sunday and he couldnt believe the car was a flat six. LOL! Issue I'm finding is lightweight and quiet dont seem to work together? There is probably a real market emerging for very lightweight, high flow and quiet mufflers. Seems to my that Mufflers could be made from differnt materials than steel that would have much better sound deading qualities.

I blew the 103db at sears once when the muffler flange cracked off my header, I pretty much had open exhaust on one side and it was WAY louder than it normally is. The other thing at sears you can let off the throttle when you get by the mic...

Laguna has always been a problem for many, you probably could cap one side of your muffler if its a problem. The M&K muffler i have is designed for that.

I have a dB meter.

Do several WOT passes.
40ft, 50ft, 60ft.

Then relax!

If you don't care about lap times! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The mic at Sears meters out of T10 and away from T1. Full throttle in both.
103dB is pretty loud.

My megaphones hit 99.

One sign your car might be too loud....if you feel like you need earplugs when you're driving it WITH your helmet on!

I used to use open megaphones at the track but I have some noticeable hearing loss in my left ear so now I have an M&K on the car. It is nice and light and hopefully has a minimal impact on power although I don't know how much.

Anybody know if a stock engine lid vs. a GT style (all mesh) lid makes a significant difference? I am hoping to drive Laguna someday -- maybe this year with POC -- so I should gather up the parts I may need for quietness. In the garage I have a stock engine lid, stock airbox and a cap for one of the two M&K pipes.

I used GT lid with standard rain hats. No insulation or 911 air box. Passed 92 db with a standard banana muff. Maybe 2.5 generates different harmonic?

There are a few 99cent iPhone apps that can roughly tell how loud you are?
