(IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) Que es El Nino?

For those of you interested in just coming out for a little (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) time -
.... as well as those interested in :first: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) -
....... or even just showing off your "Babies" in the non-judged Display areas

Come on out to one or more of these fun Porsche Car Show Events in SoCal, AZ & Vegas. See the 2016 Schedule below ....

Let's have a good showing of the NARPy 914 crowd at these 2016 Porsche car shows, & you may be quite surprised & pleased to find that our 914s are nowadays very well received by the the tail-dragger & other Porsche cars crowd, as well as by the general public who attend these events.

One big change for 2016 is that there is now a separate 914 Class in Wash & Shine Division - which is only judging interior & exterior (thanx to yours truly, all other divisions already had a separate 914 Class) - which means Class Awards will be given to 914s now, instead of being lumped in with the early 911/912 crowd.

So if you want to stick your toe in the water & try out entering your 914, but don't want to spend a lot of time detailing the trunks & engine bay (& undercarriage for Full Concours nuts like SoCal Andy T.) - or maybe your 914 is your DD or oft driven & you just don't want to deal with the other judged areas - Wash & Shine is the one for you! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Don't be scared off from the rumors .... Remember - originality does NOT matter for these PCA Concours - it is a Cleaning, Prep & Detailing contest - NOT an: "is that shifter knob or radio etc. correct?" nitpicker game!

If you want to enter "Preservation Class" ONLY - then 75% of your paint & 75% of your interior must be Original from the factory, but still not into thge other originality of bits-n-pieces (it for 10 MY old & older P-cars, if you have others.

But if you don't want to be judged - most/all have a non-judged Display Area, & all have other interesting things going on &/or nearby to make a day or weekend of fun for you & the family, wife, S.O., etc.

Of note of a few added fun stuff at some of these events:

Early April usually has a Concours on the Saturday in conjunction with the Fri-Sun California Festival of Speed at the Ontario Speedway, so you can see both judged & display cars, as well as the races & AX onsite. UPDATE the UPDATE - the FOS may be now Display only.

4/24 SGVR is held at Art Center School of Design in Pasadena - THE premier auto design school in the world, with a Tour of the Auto Design Dept. & student projects led by it's Chair & fellow PCA member Stewart Reed (also a fellow VW Westy owner/lover BTW) after the judging is over.

6/12 OCR is held at Lantern Bay Park above Dana Point Harbor & next to the Marriott, where the 356 Club's & big Dana Point Concours are held at different dates.

7/10 LAR is held at the Museum of Flight on the south end of Santa Monica Airport, so Porsches & Planes are the treat, since the museum is free for that event.

Aug. SDR is held on San Diego Bay at Shelter Island, with a bunch of fun marine stuff & eateries.

Mid-Sept is the Coronado Speedfest vintage races, where SDR hosts a nice food & refreshments tent & Porsche Corral - it's not on the list, since that judged car show is separate & not a PCA event per se - but it's great fun on Sat-Sun!

9/25 LVR is held as part of the larger multi-marque Red Rocks Car Show in Vegas, & then .... well, there's all of Vegas! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Zone 8 @ Calif. Festival of Speed UPDATE the UPDATE - the FOS may be now Display only.

> April 8 to 10, 2016 - http://www.zone8.org/events/speedfestival.php

www.zone8.org - go to Events Calendar & select Concours for more info.

A few suggestions:

Pick your Judged Class by how much cleaning, prep & detailing you want to do, based on the areas judged in the Classes list below:

Wash & Shine - Interior & Exterior only
Ubergang (newer Porsches with closed off engine bays only) - Int, Ext. & Storage
Street - Interior, Exterior, Storage (trunk(s) &/or Cargo areas), Engine
Preservation - same as Street + 75% original paint & interior, min. 10 MY old
Full Concours - same as Street + Undercarriage (2 areas - with engine & without)*

* Undercarriage divides into 2 halfs - one with the engine F or R/Mid, & opposite, where everything mechanical, suspension, engine & transaxle/etc. undersides, belly pan, wheel wells, insides of wheels & brakes, et., etc. are all judged for cleaning/prep/detailing - a daunting task indeed.

Note that only Full Concours cars can be towed to the events, but must be driven onto & off the site under their own power, & you can tow to any out-of-state event for any/all of the Classes.

There will also be Concours Prep Schools available to learn the ins-&-outs, how judging works, prep demos & tricks of the CW trade to help you out, but they weren't included in the list above to we judges.

They & the Judges Schools are typically about $25 for a 3/4 day event, & include coffee/doughnuts/etc. & a boxed lunch, plus any hand-outs/etc.

If you want to compete for Zone 8 end of year awards (as opposed to 1, 2 or a few events), then there are a couple of combinations of the number of shows in which you need to compete (33% with 1 out of state, or 50% if all in state, IIRC), plus you need to accrue 300 "Service Points" per year, for which the general volunteers, time keepers, runners, etc. earn 75 pts. per show, judges & event chairs earn 100 pts (& varying pts. for other volunteering).

Ergo, you can get your 300 by judging at just 3 events. However, you first need to attend a separate judges School in the schedule above, & then every 2-3 years thereafter to be eligible to judge.

So I recommend that folks do the judges school & judging route if you're going to campaign your 914 or other P-car, as Andy Thonet did with his screaming yellow 914-6/M471 build in 2015 (until the accident).

I judge cuz I get to crawl up-close-&-personal with a bunch of Bichen cars! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif) drooley.gif

IMHO - the $46 per year PCA dues for you & an associate (spouse, kid, buddy) is a bargain, with the 12 months of Panorama magazine (equal to Excellence + membership bennies - especially since Pete stout switched to Pano) + your local Region's magazine + all the national, zones' & regions' free & pay for a meal or AX, CdE, etc. events to boot!

Cheers! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)
