When I was 20 yrs old I bought a Cranberry Red 1968 Chevy Nova. It was a 2 door with a 153 cu in 4 cyl engine and 3 speed on the column. A year after I bought it I swapped a V8 and 4-speed into it. I had the most fun with that car. It was loud and fast and looked good and was so much fun to drive. If I dream about one of my old cars it's always that car. This was in 1971. A bit after that I met the girl that was to be my wife. The Nova ended up getting sold for startup money when we got married. I started driving VW Bugs again but I never forgot that Nova. 4 years ago I found a red Nova with a sick 6 banger and I am setting out to recreate that old car. I have a 327 and a 4-speed and the car is in the garage right now being worked on. A Nova fits on 914 jackstands just fine.
As has been bandied about on this site I sold my 914 and am currently without a drivable teener. My 914 was exclusively an autocross car and I had been driving and modifying it since 1994. Lately I realized I was not having as much fun autocrossing as I used to. It was not any one thing but a combination of many factors. Lack of a local support group. Costs were increasing. A lot of breakage in my final season. There was other stuff too. While I was figuring out what to do I decided to sit out the rest of the race season and park the car. Then I got an offer to buy the car. It was a good offer. I thought rather than let that investment sit I would accept the offer and do somethong else for a while. So the car is gone. I know how to build another one and I could make it better this time. Maybe someday... |
